Annan The History Town

Enlivening Annan's past to create a brighter future for the town...

Defensive Annan

Located on the River Annan close to the Solway Firth and near to the border between Scotland and England, the settlement at Annan played a strategic and defensive role.

During the Wars of Independence the area was of key importance as one of two principal routes into the country from England and the disputed lands between Scotland and England regularly made it a target for reivers, hence the need for castles and fortifications.
