Wartime Annan

Annan and the local area have much history connected with the two World Wars.

Hundreds volunteered and marched off to war, with many never returning and the War Memorial lists all their names. Just along the coast HM Factory Gretna was the UK’s largest cordite factory but Annan also had an operational RAF base training fighter pilots and many of the grand houses in the area were commandeered as hospitals or homes for evacuees.
