The Challenging Trail (Red Route)

Follow this longer route through the Everholm, Annan Harbour and the wider town centre, taking in key historic locations along the way. Start at Panel 1: Everholm – Annan’s Lost Castle and listen as you walk between locations.

Step 1
Start at Panel 1: Everholm – Annan’s Lost Castle

Step 2
Follow the path through the park to Panel 2: Annan Castle – The Bruces’ Bailey

Step 3
Continue around the Motte and Bailey perimeter to Panel 3: Annan Castle – Edge of the Bailey

Step 4
Cross towards Battery Street to Panel 4: Smuggling on the River Annan

Step 5
Walk along Annan High Street to Panel 5: Bridge House

Step 6
Continue down Port Street to reach Panel 6: Annan Harbour

Step 7
Return along Port Street, then turn down Nicholson Street, continue along Wood Avenue, and follow Elm Road to reach Panel 7: The Central Hotel – The Railways and Emigration

Step 8
Walk up St John’s Road, then along Banks Street back towards Annan High Street to reach Panel 8: Downie’s Wynd – The Riding of the Marches

Step 9
Continue past the Fish Cross to finish at Panel 9: Annan Old Parish Church – Edward Irving & St Kentigern
